I don't want photoshop to launch when I open a pdf or a jpg
How do you change the settings in Photoshop so that a pdf or jpg file does not automatically launch Photoshop when you click on either of those file formats?

Well, here's the simple steps, Right-click on any jpg/jpeg file, select "properties" click "change" and select "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" "Ok" "Apply" "Ok". Sometimes you'll need to browse the application, but in your case, i hope "windows picture and fax viewer" is right there. Same thing with the pdf, but you'll only need to open a pdf reader like "Adobe Reader" or "Fixit Reader". Good luck. Thank you for using FixYa.
This isn't changed in photoshop, but in your OS. Any operating system (windoze, linux, mac) will allow you to change file associations for any file type. Most systems allow you to right-click a file, choose "open with" from the pop-up menu, select the program you want your file to open with & tick the appropriate box to remember this decision to set default. Can't advise more not knowing what OS you're running.
