I dropped my droid in water about two weeks ago. I removed the battery and placed the phone in a zip lock with some rice for several days to dry it out. Unfortunately I don't think it was dry enough when I powered it back on. While powering up, the screen started to flicker for a few seconds and then went black. In just the right lighting I can see all of the icons and the phone seems to fully function with the exception that there is no backlighting. I did not get the insurance and would like to know what it would cost to have it repaired
If you're out of warranty, you can try to open the DROID and remove all traces of the waterdamage. There is a Droid Repair Guide that shows you how to take it apat. There are services that can do it for you. Droid Repair.
