You have what is called a 'Head Crash' on your Hard drive and the clicking/whriling noise is caused by your HDD trying to read the corrupted drive. It is a 'physical' fault and in general you cannot recover anything unless you can 'read' it: if it is the case, use a HDD recovery utility. (ps. you can get most of the data on a crashed HDD recovered professionally if it is critical but it is 'very expensive'!) Hope it helps!

If you drop your hard drive it's probably not going to work. Data Recovery is very expensive.
