I got a 2005 Chevy silverado and it's got a ticking sound coming from the engine no check engine light so don't know really where to start looking for what's wrong can you please give me some ideas on where to start thanks

Could be a valve ticking or an exhaust leak. Both make pretty much the same sound.
Check oil level and color. It could be a sticking hydraulic lifter. If oil is low or dirty, change it and the filter. Could also be a loose connecting rod (not good) if it's a loud tap. There are other possibilities but stay with the oil check.
