I got a new power adaptor for my DP01 but didn't realize it was a 12V 4A AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 2.5a.Something fried and it wont power up. On th PCB board looks like a diode flashing orange off an on. Think this can be repaired?
I would say it can... strange though that the new supply would harm it. As long as the voltage is correct having a bigger supply should not be an issue. Something to check, is the plug that plugs into the unit the orrect polarity. diffent manufactures make the center pin (+) others make it (-). Most Engineers (being one myself) try and make any connection the end user can normally get to protected against these types of problems.
using a power supply rated for more current in itself should not cause a problem because the device determines how much current it needs.... make sure of the polarity and also that it is a 12V DC supply you are using.
Pull the drive out and put it in a PC, see if it functions there... you could get the drive diagnostic from whoever the drive manufacturer is and run them on the PC as well.

If your new power adapter is 12V/4A and the DP01 wants 12V/2,5A there is no problem. The reverse situation could be a problem. I don't figure exactly what's your problem.

You are absolutely right, go for the hard drive. These symptoms are for short circuit at the pcb controller...

Just for info: The hard drive was probably damaged when the old power supply blew and not when the new one was connected.
