The blue screen seems to happen when you change the batteries (it's what happened to us). The blue screen indicates that there's a software problem, like when you boot up your computer and for some reason it freezes up. That software needs to be reinstalled. You'll lose anything that was saved on the v.reader, but at least you'll get it working again.
vtech could have made it a very simple problem to solve just by adding in their customer support: Blue Screen? follow these steps. But they don't, so here's how:
You'll need an SD card with at least 64mo of free space. If you want to use the one from your digital camera, transfert all of your pictures to the computer. Everything on the SD card will be erased.
Download the Recovery software from either link below (you can find both on the vtech website)
For the US version http://contentcdn.vtechda.com/vtechkidsDownload/US/VReader/Tool/Recover/US-engRecoverCardTool.exe
For the Canadian english version http://contentcdn.vtechda.com/vtechkidsDownload/CA-eng/VReader/Tool/Recover/CA-engRecoverCardTool.exe

Run the program and follow the instructions (at least those are clear and easy to follow). Mine worked fine after that.
i thought these instructions would be pretty straight forward and sounds very easy. But noooo everything I try the reader just says 'update failed'. Im very upset as my son has only used it twice and got it for christmas 2013. We have the Storio version so Im not sure if that makes a difference. Any extra help or advise would be awesome.i thought these instructions would be pretty straight forward and sounds very easy. But noooo everything I try the reader just says 'update failed'.
