I had a Bernina Aurora 440 given to me to repair the machine runs for about 20-30 mins then the screen goes off. When you take the front cover off you can see 3 leds a 30v 12v and a 5v. The 5v led goes dull when this happens when you turn the machine off for about 30 secs and turn it back on again the machine restarts for about 5 mins then it does the same thing again my guess is it's probaly a circuit board or power board anyone got any other ideas?
This is a problem with the particular model. Bernina has a servi ce bulletin out on that issue and it should be under warranty. It needs a new power supply, or L-Print as Bernina calls it.
You correctly surmise it is a problem on the power supply board in the back cover - called an 'L'-print. You can change this for around £150 or, if you have some electronic knowledge, you can do the job much cheaper by identifying the 8-pin DIL chip nearest the multiway connector - it is labelled KA34063 - change this for a new one and it will cure the problem. Parts can be found on eBay for under £5.
