Get a pressure tester and pressure check the system. If you still can't find the leak sounds like you could have a bad head,or bad transmission cooler (if the vehicle is an automatic.) .Pull out the spark plugs and look for traces of anti freeze / coolant on them, and if greyish smoke is comming out of the tail you have a bad head gasket. another means of verifying this is to see if there is any oil in the radiator or coolant resovoir.
Lastly check the transmission fluid level for traces of coolant. Usually if the cooler is leaking the level of ATF rises above the fill mark at the dipstick because the coolant is leaking into the transmission. If it turns out to be the cooler you still may be able to save the tranny but it woun't be cheap. Good luck
Does car overheat at all? Check your oil. Is it milky or watery? You are describing classic head gasket failure, I recently had a weird problem with a 04 Toyota leaking where there were no water hoses right out of the side of engine (but couldn't see it) BAD head gasket. Your engine "drinking" is more of what I had seen in the past with bad head gaskets. Good luck!
