I have 1948 8n with tooth missing from 2nd gear making loud knocking noise, will the tractor still function if l remove the rest of the teeth from gear? Do away with 2nd gear!

Yes your solution will work though a replacement gear would be better. Even if the gear is accessible insitu the part should be removed from the gearbox and from the mainshaft as it is important no swarf, metal chips or grinding particles remain to contaminate the new oil and shorten the life of the remaining components.
