I have 2005 Freestyle, when start the car all is good and drive for a while, after 10- 20 miles the AWD malfuntion indicator comes on and the traction control LT comes on simutainiously I also note that it will be in front wheel drive by default when this happens, there is no other drivability problem and you can drive car all day , imediate recycle of the key does not fix it untill the car is shut off for a while, and there were no DTC stored. Any ford GuRus out there

The trac contol and awd read info from the PCM . That info comes from the abs tone rings at the wheels. Check the wheel bearings for excessive play & damage or metal shavings stuck to the abs sensors (they are magnetic). This can also come from different size tires on the car but I'm sure you know they should all be the same size.
The tires are all the same size.. and fairly new. the brakes are good as well, I will however re check the codes. funny it does not post any cose in the pcm. and it happens every time you drive it. and it defaults to font wheel drive only when this condition acurrs the ABS feels like it does not work but traction control does feel like it works. it is snowing today we are taking a long trip 200 mile In the snow so I will feel many ways the system works and reacts.
