I have a 03 nissan sentra and the heat doesnt work. My mechanic told me it was the radiator and hose so i changed them. It still doesnt work. It only works on the highway. The other day the car was overheating and when i pulled over my coolant was bubbling and there was smoke coming out of it

Sounds more like a water pump circulation problem now you have eliminated the radiator? Also have the radiator cap pressure tested. The cap could be the simple fix. Hope this helps.
Try your thermostat that's usually the problem or a blocked hose
