I have a 05 Dakota 4.7 v8 6 speed. I get a gascap code and when driving the rpms stay up between shifts and when slowing down they stay up until stopped, then they will drop to 800 rpms at idle. Are these two problems connected or seperate issues?

They are seperate issues, The gas cap code usaly means the vehical was fueled while running, Or cap is defective, The idle concern could be a vacume leak, Or a faulty idle air controll motor
