I have a 1950s Montgomery Ward tube amp -- same model as Silvertone 1432. This 10-watt amp suddenly doesn't have any sound out of the mic input jack. Sounds fine in all other input jacks. Could it be a tube? Any simple diagnostic suggestions for a non-techie or suggestions to advise an amp tech?

There is a or should be a 12AX7 preamp tube driving the microphone side of the amp. That tube could be bad, they are only about 15 to 20 dollars for a new one, don't worry about NOS stuff, waste of money if you ask me. Tung Sol makes good 12AX7s. Also check the volume control. Spray it out with some contact cleaner and rotate the control about 10 times, this will get rid of any dust or oxidation that has occured over time.
Since you don't get any sound it should be just a tube replacement.
