I have a 1992 cadillac fleetwood fwd, 4.9l wont crank. Starter is good though
I have a 1992 Cadillac Fleetwood FWD 4.9L V8. I cant get it to start or even turn over. Battery is good, starter and soloinoid are good. I can even crank it with a screw driver by touching the 2 leads at the starter and the key in the on position. I at one point tried to troubleshoot and i tried turning the key to on but not attempting to crank and i left it in that position for about 5 minutes then turned it the rest of the way and it would crank but you shut it off and try again right away nothing would happen. Now it wont even do that. I thought maybe some sort of relay but I couldnt figure out whats what. Also I took the glove box out and theres this silver box i think its the BCM, mounted a little to the left and its making a buzzing sound atleast i think thats what it is. Im wondering if thats it before I make a major purchase. Also the anitlock, traction off, lights are on and sometimes the security light comes on and off. Im wondering if its all because of the BCM or whatever. Help me please Im so sick of this car.

Seems to be my mantra lately but i suspect it's the time of the year where there is alot of condensation. Locate the starter relay. very likely in the engine compartment close to the battery. it has fuses/relays in it. remove the lid and if you are lucky there is a label under the lid that will tell you which fuse/relay is it. change it then try it out.

Ok well you found them so that's good. i don't know myself which one but a fast way to get info on that is to call a caddy dealer (pretty much any gm dealer will do) and ask them if they can tell you which relay is the one you are after. generally when i need this kind of information i just drop into see the parts guy. never fails that they will photocopy the manual page you need. some will charge you for it some won't.
Let me know how you make out with this and if you can't find the information in this manner i'll suggest other methods of finding out.

public library is your next bet.... search for either chilton or haynes books.... they should have a photo or labeling of the fuse panel that will help you. buy at least one replacement relay... pull one and pop it in... keep trying it in different positions... i know that is time consuming but if you don't have the fuse/relay you don't.
Can you find the label on the device that is buzzing and post that too please.
I think that is called an ECM .... interesting electrical problems and it must be frustrating but we will work this out.
