I have a 1999 Geo Prizm 4 cylinder I was driving down the highway and my starter caught on fire the wire running from the starter going to the computer is burnt is that going to be a hard fixed or
The starter casing burned off all it pain and oil? or just a wire melted. why not post a photo of the damage so experience sparks guys can tell you what's up.
there are 3 wires on the solenoid to Sol to starter to Sol battery and the very tiny key line wire. which one burned./?
the tiny wire burned means someone (the bad guy) put the wrong fuse on the start key line circuit. fix that first then when fuse blows, fix the short now, on that line,. its cut and touching the body of car (ground)
if the huge battery cables burned, that is a shorted starter. (they can ) but in all cases a shorted starter cause huge voltage drop and the Solenoid coil goes dead below 8v. and will chatter, only. and you need new starter and new burned cables. If both burned up.
what does hard mean.? to me i pray for such simple failures. ever have a crank shaft journal burn up? new cables is what i call childs play, (battery NEG lug off first and on last or boom eat acid) its just 2 cables and 4 ends. (in right order) the starters has 2 bolts (not counting wires) whats hard about that? watch 100 youtube on that, there is no lack of examples. watch them?
