I have a 1999 Legacy. Died while I was driving. Oil didn't register on dip stick. Won't start now. It turns over fine. Has power, compression, oil & fuel pressure is good. Plugs are dry(Not saturated). Seems like fuel isn't making its way into engine. Timing looks fine too. Tested fuses, relays, injectors and sensors, with no success....HELP!
Did you wait a few minutes to check oil once it drained back to oil pan? The alternator can quit, but the car will run on the battery for a short time until it is dead..this is usually marked by a sudden sluggishness, low voltage indicated on batt gage, then sudden shut down..Try jumping the battery,it will start, then pull off the pos cable,it it dies immediately, have alternator tested/replaced...good luck
Could have overheated because low on oil, the engine may not start until the computer is reset, a safty feature which keeps the engine from damage in such cases., Take it to a mechanic to reset the computer if you think the oil being low was the main issue.
