I have a 1hp 3450 RPM single speed AO Smith motor on my pool pump and it just quit. My question is can I replace it with a two speed motor? If so I'm sure I will need some type of controler to change the speed. Can you give me any advice as what to do?

Some motors have two speeds listed on the spec plate, study the wiring diagram on the plate to see if the speed is set by the way you wire it.(which leads you twist together at the motor)Good luck
As long as the motor voltages match you can use the two speed motor. On the data plate or on the cover of the juntionn box it will show you how to wire the motor. Pick the speed that is closes to 3450 and just put a wirenut on the unused speed. You will not need any controler.
