I have a 2000 stratus that has the 6 cylinder in it.. it wont start or if it does dies within seconds
I have a 2000 stratus that has the 6 cylinder in it.. it didnt like to start when it was raining, but it finally it got to a point where it wont start or wont stay running...my daughter owned the car and burned out starter trying to get it to start so I put in a new one..the thing is that it will sometimes start 1 out of 20 times and sometime it will run for a while..daughter drove it to my house, but shut it off and no start again, car sat for a while i tried it here and there and no start, just got a chance to work on it, tried it , and it started and ran for a few seconds ,died and no start, pulled cap and rotor off...which is a pain on this engine..cleaned the contacts and put back together, tried it, started for a couple of seconds and died, again no start. checked codes and none showing, but a few monitors are not set, when cranking no tach movement, spray in starting fluid and not even a puff or two. I looked up on line possibilities and crank sensor shows up,pcm shows up and distributor shows up as possible causes. problem is the distributor is over 200, the crank sensor is 80, the cap and rotor are 70, and pcm is alot..I cant afford to throw parts at this thing so I was wondering if there are any ideas out there. the starting every once in a while has me confused.
