I have a 2001 ford ranger. I am having trouble filling the gas tank. Vapors won't release and it takes a very long time to fill the tank. Is there a vent valve on the tank?
I replaced the Fuel filler neck, the vapor line was very rusty. My next step was to drop the tank and see if there is a vent valve on the tank that could be preventing vapors from escaping

DEAR Frank,
ABSOLUTELY NOT (and with EXTREMELY good cause).
Your tank is specifically designed
to NOT LET VAPORS escape... If things are working
properly you ought to be hearing a SUCKING SOUND
when you pull off the gas cap...
Here in California... EPA folks go completely homicidal
at the notion of gas fumes (this being the STATE where we have BAY FRONT retirement centers for our GAZILLION deathrow inmates... (folks all queued-up for their last meal)...!!
((I'd spell *****-row correctly... but I don't believe it would get past our PC squads)).
Not only are they (vapors) harmful to the environment...
they are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
Beg, borrow or BUY the book and read up-on
VAPOR RECOVERY system... (TOTALLY).
Check your charcoal canister is not saturated... and
CONSIDER going to better GAS STATIONS.
Stop by your local FIRE house or US Coast Guard
duty station... And find out first hand how easy it is to strike up a conversation on the EQUIVALENT STICKS of DYNAMITE...
for a single ounce of PROPERLY VAPORIZED gas fumes.
It's all incredibly fast and fatal...
Get yourself completely QUALIFIED before you
create a serious disaster!!
Better still... hire a qualified (CERTIFIED) professional.

The time it is taking to fill my tank has gotten worse. I can hardly pump gas slow enough before the gas handle shuts off. A few seconds then the valve shuts. There is definitely something wrong, I cannot replace the air in the tank with gas. It appears to fill up the filler tube then has to gravity feed as vapor slowly allows it. I appreciate your comments. I ordered the manual you suggested. Will read up on the system and a friend and I might try to drop the tank down this weekend.
I'm wondering if the FILL-TUBE (rubber) coupling has delaminated (and the neoprene liner is blocking your fluid flow)?
(can't find that part... is that new??)
((rockauto says "included"... I dunno)).
