I have a 2003 Ford Ranger. It has no alarm system installed. Does it still have the idiotic "anti-theft" ignition locking system, even though it has no alarm system?
Probably is fitted with the famous Ford PATS, Passive Anti-Theft System, that is disarmed by a coded transponder embedded in the ignition key. The vehicle handbook should provide details.
These systems are only idiotic when they don't work properly and cost money to fix but it was the introduction of these systems that was largely responsible for ending casual car theft as a national sport - weren't so idiotic then...
Open your driver window and lock the car wait for 1-5 mints and open the door from the inside handle of the horn hose off or the emergency signals start to flashing then yes u have the system of not then no
