I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota, V6, 3.7L, with the 42RLE transmission. The tranny died last week, and I have replaced it with a used 42RLE from an '05 Dakota. Shift lever on steering column in park. Shift selector on transmission in park. Gear indicator on dash tells me I am in reverse, truck will not start. Cycle shift lever through all gears, indicator stays in reverse until drive, then matches for drive, second, and low. On the way back up, stays in drive through reverse, no neuteral or park. Haynes manual for my truck mentions checking the ohms between pins on transmission range sensor, but shows it external on the case. Everything I can find on the 42RLE shows it internal in the valve body. Also Haynes does not list the 42 RLE as one of the transmissions covered. Help?
