I have a 2005 Mercedes C240. Today, the "right brake lamp" light came on intermittently. The light would work sometimes and sometime now. Just to try the cheapest thing first, I replaced the bulb. Looking at the old bulb, the filament was still intact. Anyway, I replaced the bulb, the same message is there, and now that lamp is again no working. What do I do to fix it?
This sounds like you need to look at the socket in which encases the bulb. Look at the contacts inside. Also on these it is critical that you use quality bulbs, if not in can trigger that light whether it works or not. Is there anything in the trunk which coujld have banged against the housing? Does the new bulb work in the socket, in other words have you seen it fail standing behind the car or just on the display? Sometimes you can get a false positive.
