I have a 30 year old JVC L A120 turntable. When I pulled it out of my closet, I found the belt had broken and decided to buy a replacement. Before installing the belt, the motor spun and couldn't be stopped, not even the stop button worked (probably faulty wiring). However, now that I've installed the new belt, the motor wont even spin at all
Clearly a fault with either the motor or the power supply side of it. Try turning the motor spindle with your hands. If you can't get it to move or it's very hard to move, replace the motor.
