This could be as simple as a rest of the TV. You must remember that TVs today are first and foremost computers and all computers sometimes get into a lock-up mode cause by power glitches, a bug in the software, or even, believe it or not, cosmic rays.
The simplest way to reset the TV is to unplug the TV from the wall and leave it unplugged for about five (5) minutes. Then plug it back into the wall and go through the TV setup instructions, if needed. Surely these were saved in a file folder or scanned into a computer folder someplace?
One of my VISIO TVs is attached to a simple AC outlet power ON/Off switch because it keeps getting into a similar mode every now and then. I have not yet found out why this happens but in my case simply turning the power to the AC outlet that feeds the TV off for ~ 15 seconds is all it takes. I turn it back on and once again the remote control now works with the TV. In my case the TV gets into a state where it no longer can "see" the remote control signals. In your case, if we're lucky and something major is not wrong with the TV, your TV has locked up in the software someplace before it can even decode a signal and thus has nothing to put up on the screen, thus the "blue screen of *****."
