Hello. Your fan motor does not spin all the time when engaged because a motor components called carbon brushes, or motor brushes are worn down to the point that they barely have contact with the armature of the motor. It is possible to replace the brushes but more often than not the fix is to replace the entire motor. Regards, Joe
Please open the Aprilaire 760 owner manual HERE This is a large file and it will takes few minutes to load. === THE FIX I will reference pages on the manual. Please DISCONNECT the power source before you start. A shop vacuum or a home vac with hose attachment will help remove any unwanted dirty and dust around the motor area. ===== PAGE 4 Locate the dial Spin the dial left and right 20-30 times as fast as possible. This will help re-new the metal contacts inside the dial. ===== ===== PAGE 16 Give the interior surface a quick vacuum and dry towel wipe down. NOTE: The motor is permanently lubricated and does not need to be oiled. I will use two drops of 10W30 motor oil on the outside of the motor shift. Check the fan for free play / side to side and up and down play. Turn the fan and see does it spin freely. You may have to replace the brushes and/or the bearings if they are worn. ===== Close it up and reconnect the power. Power it up with high humidity setting and see is the fan moving smoothly.
