I have a 81845gvm-rz gigabyte motherboard with internal HDD of 40GB capacity, now i am looking upgrade my internal HDD some where near 500gb is it possbile doing it. i need more free space on my c:\ drive since working on 3D design software

The new harddrive technology you refer to is SATA.
A SATA power cable is used,

HOWEVER,....all is not lost. You can install a SATA Adapter Card in an unused PCI (White long slot), and use a SATA harddrive.
