I have a 96 grand marquis and when I first start the vehicle up and drive the car it has a slight downshifting problem from 2nd to 1st. The problem will stop after a few minutes and shift fine after that it also wants to overheat just a bit thanks!!!
The transmission fluid/filter is probably dirty and clogged...you can try adding a bottle of Luca Oil Transmission stabilizer fluid...add all of the bottle...you do not need to drain fluid to do this...about $12. a bottle...this is much less costly than paying to have the fluid and filter changed...$99.95 and up...:( The overheating can be something small like a worn out radiator cap, or stuck thermostat...you did not mention that it loses water, or that you have added any. The cap can be tested for free at your local parts store. Hope this helps.
