I have a bernina 1230 and the feed dogs will not move back and forth to allow the fabric to feed through. it just stays in one spot. i want to know if it could be a computer problem or mechanical problem

Does the knob turn the feed dog? the knob on mine, which is over twenty years old,was cracked and needs to be replaced. I'm temporarily using needle-nosed pliers to switch it for free-motion quilting.
