I have a carrier 38TDB048300 Air conditioner - the condenser is not operating at all -- neither fan nor compressor. What is the HC95DA700 unit (capacitor)?
The compressor tries to start then clicks off. I suspect it is the capacitor. But I see two capacitors - Carrier HC95DA700 with a relay? and a GE HC96KA055D. My question is, what's the HC95DA700 do and it it more likely that or the other capacitor. I don't even know if the HC95DA700 is available any more butit is $$$$, the HC96KA055D is $10. The panel is showing a constant blinking LED.

The HC95DA700 capacitor is a start capacitor that is used in conjunction with the relay to get the compressor started. Then the relay takes the start cap out of the circuit and the run cap takes over. It could be any of the three components is bad. I usually change all three to be sure. If that doesn't work the compressor is locked up and, in that case, you have to replace the compressor.
Perfect!!!
I was baffled how 2 single caps could start and run the comp and fan -- but found the fan cap hidden, Both run caps are toast and am also replacing the start cap w/ a kickstart KS1 ($40 vs $250) and also the contactors. She'll be like new (hope the compressor isnt seized!)
