I would double check the routing of your replacement belt and check the location/tightness of the tensioner pulley. This sounds like a slipping belt. Another issue may be snow/water getting on belt causing slippage
The auger and impeller are geared to work together. the auger does turn much slower then the impeller. You may not have a problem at all
