If you have no video card in yoru computer will automaticly use default video settings.
Secondly when you add the video card go to the website of the manufacture and download the updated drivers for the video card. alot of time the ones on the cd are old.
Third Go to your motherboards manufacture and see if there is any update bios. sometimes with new or old cards the bio's need to be updated to read the cards in the slots.
also sounds dumb but make sure you buy the correct card to fit the correct slot on *********** board. meaning if its pci Express or pci express 32. etc. lastly make sure the card you get matches your power supply.
Go to the system set up usually F2 or F10. it will state it as soon as it starts up. check in onboard devices. I don't know exactly how your system setup looks like but I know to disable it it in their.
