I have a FlashTrax FTX40 (SmartDisk) that is not allowing me to transfer my raw photography files into my computer. The device is making noises and everytime I plug it into the computer, the computer locks up. I cannot access my photos. I am a professional photographer and rely on these devices for storeage

Thank you for posting your question on Fixya! As you may your media player uses a hard disk as the primary storage device. The type is usually 2.5" SATA. From what you have described, the hard disk of the player is the source of the problem. The noises usually indicate a hard drive crash. Even though you can format the disk to get it back to normal, The only way to recover the data on it is to take it apart, get the hard drive out, hook it up to your PC and use a data recovery tool to recover the data. I usually use a software called data rescue PC to recover data from dead drives but its a bit expensive(Currently costs around 90$). To prevent this from happening in future always use the SD card option to store the files. Format the SD card using FAT32 and store your pics. I have been using my card formatted using FAT32 for almost 3 years now on various devices without a problem.

But if i plug it into my computer I have access to all of my files. does anyone have the auto run/operating system files for this device.
