The first possibility is the water valve in the machine is not sealing and it dripped water through the valve into the machine since you last used it.(there are four solenoids on a mixing valve) Something may have lodged, valve may be going, may go away, may get worse, flood laundry room in rare cases.(suggest turning off the hot and cold water house lines between use at the shutoff where washer is connected)
Second is the pump did not pump out the water, but the clothes would not have spun out, not very likely by your description of problem .
Lastly low water pressure on your house line may have affected the valve shutting off, but this is also rare, again, shut off water to unit between use at house supply lines.(hot and cold) good luck
