I have a homelite xl auto. It runs good, then it does'nt
I have a homelite xl auto. It runs great then just like someone threw a switch the idle is erratic. It has big time throttle hesitation, and it stalls. Then again like a switch it runs good again. I have gaped the coil at .010, replaced the plug, made sure it was the correct plug and gapped correctly, cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel line, it was dry rotted, also adjusted the carb, compression is about 70 psi not bad. Ive been messing with this on and off for weeks now. There's nothing I have not touched. Can someone help?

I think there is a flake of something that goes to a right angle to fuel flow and causes the saw to starve. Once the flow abates it returns to the original position and everything is wonderful until flow lifts it again. Have you washed out the tank? Logic says against the filter or something in the carburetor.

The collective genius if these folk is hard to match. I recommend you do a search and post to an existing thread. That usually gets more help than creating a new thread. A search might even supply a few ideas neither one of us thought about.
