I have a JasJam and the new battery I bought for it will not fire up the phone. The salesperson said I might need an upgrade for the phone to recognise the new battery. Would this be true and ifso where do I get the upgrade

Does the phone turn on with the old battery? There is nothing like an upgrade needed for the battery to be recognized.
Tap on Start >> Settings >> System and open up System Information, go to versions tab and compare the version of your phone with that of the salesman's phone. Check if there is any difference?
