I have a jenson vm9312 dvd mp3 cd in dash player i have been trying to hook up in my sunfire but every time i go to do it i have to connect the ignition and battery constont together just for it to turn on but with it like that i dont even have to have my key turned on it is just always on what am i doing wrong???

You are right there, very close.
The constant +12VDC goes to the Battery (or similar unswitched power source)
The Ignition wire needs to be run to your fuse box.
On the fuse box/panel you will see at least one male spade connector (flat) that says 'IGN'. This connector has +12VDC only with the ignition on.
Thats where it needs to go.
