I have a John Deere riding mower with a Kholer CV12-5S engine. It runs great when the fuel filter is full but the engine seem to **** the fuel filter empty and fuel seems to stop flowing. If I pull the fuel line off of the carburetor the fuel flows freely. The tank is clean and unobstructed, new hoses, filter, and shutoff valve. I have checked all the carb ports and vents and float. When first reconnected fuel flows freely, fills up the filter and bowl and the engine runs fine. Then within a few minutes the filter begins to loose volume as it is being used by the engine faster then it can flow into the filter. Eventually flow stops completely, the filter is drained and the engine dies. I am at a loss, and have no idea what to look for. Help Please? I cannot afford a repair shop at this time
Drain the tank. Remove the line between the tank and filter Use an air compressor to blow air back into the tank. There is a screen in the tank that must be partiallly blocked. Use air to blow out all the lines
It seems that you have some air trapped in the fuel line. Disconnect the fuel line at the inlet of the fuel filter and blow hard till you can hear the bubbles coming freely into the fuel tank. Next check if the fuel tank cap. It is supposed to let in air freely as the tank empties and if air is being blocked due to the rubber seal in the cap, it would slowly build negative pressure inside the tank not allowing the fuel to flow freely for long. Either of two could be the problem................sodeep

I think somewhere on the tubing there is an air hole that causes it to **** air over fuel.Try replacing the tubing first

Make sure the vent in the tank cap is not obstructed.
