I have a john deere z245 that I was mowing the grass with yesterday, it ran out of gas, I refilled it and it will not start. It turns and turns but doesnt turn over
You're positively sure it ran out of fuel<?>. If it merely ran out of fuel then likely the fuel pump has vapor locked. If you didn't FILL the fuel tank, do so and try again (the trick here is to get the fuel level in tank higher than the fuel pump). Attempt start, if still no run then try starting fluid.
To be successful using starting fluid, remove the air filter to expose the carburetor intake. Spray a 1 second burst of starting fluid directly into the carburetor throat (you don't have to reinstall the air filter, yet). Promptly crank engine.
If engine cranks but no run, then either no spark or engine is flooded. If it runs for a couple seconds and dies, then fuel from tank is still not reaching carburetor. Repeat attempt with starter fluid. Comment here with results for further assistance if needed.
Be sure to reinstall air filter before returning to mowing.
I did everything you said and it still cranks but wont turn over called fixit guyI did everything you said and it still cranks but wont turn over called fixit guy
If it doesn't fire with starting fluid then its not likely it ran out of fuel. More likely a safety switch has failed. If it doesn't fire with starting fluid then its not likely it ran out of fuel. More likely a safety switch has failed.

Clean or replace fuel filter and spark plug.
