I have a JVC HD-70FH97 hooked to my digital box, via HDMI cable, and connected to the TV HDMI input 1. I cant get my surround system to work - any ideas what im doing wrong?
All cables are hooked up as per the JVC owners manual. I know there must be something simple im forgetting to do.

Check your HDMI audio settings. It may be trying to send a signal that is incorrect. How is the wiring setup? cable box to stereo, then to Tv?
OK. Looking at the manual it seems that the red/white RCA cables are redundant. It may be confusing the TV. The HDMI should carry both audio and video(digitally). What I would do is unplug the red/white from the tv and cable box, then plug them into the 'Audio Output'(near the bottom by the VGA/computer plug. Then run those to the input of your surround sound. I suspect the cable box does not send audio on both channels(analog and digital) when HDMI is connected. I may be wrong as I dont know the cable box, but if you get sound at the TV with just HDMI, then the Audio Output should then feed the same audio to your stereo. Then you can disable the internal TV speakers and use the stereo only. Here is the manual I was reading. http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00...
