The unit has two pressure valves that control release to the drip tray. Once they fail the hot water will go directly to the drip tray when the pressure goes up. The fix will be to replace the pressure valves (pair in series) which only cost about $20. I replaced mine and it fixed the problem. Good luck and happy espressos.
It is not simple to get to the valves. If you look by the coffee grounds basket holder you will see a black cap about .75 in in diameter. Pop this cap up and you will get access to a screw that will help in taking the unit apart.It is not simple to get to the valves. When you ordered the pressure valves did they come with instructions on installing them? i just ordered them, but not sure how to install them.
