I have a MAC 3516. I runs starts fine and runs for a few minutes at high speed (have made a few cuts), but sputters and dies. It will start again, but when I try to increase speed it dies. I have cleaned air filter (could use a new one), put in new gas, and cleaned muffer (spark arrester screen is original, but I cleaned as best I could). I was going to try to adjust carberator, but instruction manual does not provide guidance - saws settings are factory set. I took to Sears repair, but they would not look at it - said parts are unavailable. If it is a carberator setting, are they any instructions?
Try checking the fuel filter in the tank for plugging. Also, check the condition of all of the fuel lines for decay or other damage. You won't be able to adjust the jet settings if the screw heads are 'D' shaped--only authorized service dealers have the necessary special screwdriver. Try removing, then replacing the fuel cap when it quits--if the vent is plugged, it will starve the carburetor after running a while. If it works well at first, then it is not likely that the jets are mis-adjusted. Hope this helps!
