I have a Minn Kota Vector 55 lb thrust electric trolling motor. I need to change the first seal in the lower unit and the brush assembly. How do I remove the old seal ? How do I remove the brushes ? The two secrews for removing the brush assembly seem to be unusual. I cannot find an insert that fits to unscrew them. Nor can I remove the individual brushes. I have new spares and other seals. Is there a technical manual I can buy or get on line ?

First remove the prop nut. Then remove the prop. Once you remove the prop you will see two screws on the motor head like 5/16 screws approx. Remove those two screws. Once you remove those two screws you grab a hold of the back part of the motor and twist it off. When that is removed grab a hold of the shaft and gently pull out. Once you have removed the shaft look inside the housing and you will see two brushes inside. Unplug the brushes from the brush housing.
Use a dental pik to remove the real seals and then replacement should be self explanatory
You can get a tech manual from Mikes Reel repair. You can also get schematics, replacement parts and instructions (how to) do anything you want (all for free) from their website. This is a great place for Minn Kota assistance if you are doing the work yourself.

If you tell me what year the motor is, I can send you what you need? Use the comment or reply link next to your original question posted on Fixya to send me that information and I will send you instructions on the bolts that you have questions on and other relevant information
Are they socket head screws? As what is shown in this link? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti...
A dental pik is a long skinny metal stick with a hook on the end that the dentist uses to pick things out of your teeth with. You can buy them for a couple of bucks at any grocery or pharmacy type store. You use the hook to grab the seal and pick it out.Are they socket head screws? The schematic for your motor is available on Mikes Reel repair. It's not easy to find, so I am including a direct link to it below.
