I have a new 959, I can't turn the power mike up even a fourth of the way without getting a loud sqeel from my external speaker. I have tried holding the mic further from the speaker but that didnt help. Any suggestions?

You can also try an external speaker that has a volume control on it. Though I don't know if they are made anymore.
Try turning off the talkback, or try a shielded speaker for you ext. speaker
