I have a new portable hard drive which won't show up on my imac

I purchased a hornettek travel lite 500gb hard drive. i plugged it in on my mac and it won't show up. we plugged it into our other imac which has the pc stuff enabled and it works fine. we reformatted it and it still doesn't show...any suggestions? i leave for overseas today and i need to putt all my files on this asap
