I have a nice Royal confetti cut shredder that will go in reverse but barely tries to start when in 'auto'. Can this be repaired ?or am I better of to pitch and buy another

Try lubricating the machine first...put some shredder oil on a piece of paper and shred it...do this a number of times to get the oil down into the ctting shafts.
