I have a northstar 8100 gps sensor with a northstar 800X processor. The start up tests are all OK, but it is not able to detect the satelites and I get the message "gps not nav" Previously the factory was able to clear the non-volatile ram dump the memory to get the unit running. How do I do this?
You can restore the system to factory defaults by the following:
1. Start the Northstar 8000i System processor 2. Select Restore 3. Wait for the Northstar 8000i Installation environment to start. This can take up to five minutes. 4. To restore the system select Recover / Restore Current Version 5. To upgrade, select the source listed on the screen (this could be the DVD drive or other mass storage device that the upgrade file is located on). 6. The system will prompt you to confirm. Select Yes. 7. The upgrade files will be copied across to the 8000i processor. This will take approximately five to six minutes 8. Once this is done the system will reboot automatically and the files are installed into the system, this should take approximately four to five minutes. 9. A message appears: "System resealed OK to Reboot?" Select OK. 10. The system will restart and the Northstar 8000i screen will appear. This will take up to three minutes for the first time following a upgrade
The GPS unit that I have is an older unit (circa 1990) from Northstar. It is a built in marine navigator which started out with only Loran C then was upgraded to add GPS in the mid 1990s. The processor model is 800X and the GPS sensor is 8100. From what I understand the processor has limited memory and can get bogged down, so a NVROM dump and clearing the GPS alamanc is necessary to get the processor up and running again. I have tried entering Command 226253 in the display head several times with partial success and want to know if there is a reset that needs to be done. Thanks.

Hi,the solution to this problem is to flash the firmware of your gps device, which formats and clears out all internal errors and restores the initial factory settings, after this, your unit will be restored back to a normal working condition. Thanks and Good luck
How can I do that? The manufacturer has gon out of business. Is there a source for technical support or a way to find service manuals? How can I do that? The manufacturer has gon out of business. Is there a source for technical support or a way to find service manuals?
if you want to use the instrument make their no three around. make it not cloudy or raining.
also test the volt which your battery is bringing if it is the recommended volt if it is not the recommended volt by the manufacturer then change the battery.
if this still continue, then go to the factory to complain it is a factory error.
Remove your SD/MMC card if you have one installed. Remove the batteries from the device. Hit the soft reset button (you'll need a paper clip or something) twice and wait about a minute. Insert batteries and start it up.
The unit is a built-in Northstar 8100 marine GPS circa 1990. It originally was only a Loran C receiver, but was upgraded to GPS with the addition of a Northstar 800X GPS sensor. I have tried to reset the sate lite almanac by inputting Command 226253 which resets the almanac which seems to allow the unit to receive satilite style="display:none;">The unit is a built-in Northstar 8100 marine GPS circa 1990. I'm sorry I wasn't more help. I can't find anything regarding whether this actually clears the NVRAM, although on many GPS devices clearing the almanac file and resetting the NVRAM are done simultaneously...I can't guarantee that this would be the case on your unit.

Also, do you know if there is an internal battery in the processor unit that needs to be changed or how I can find out.
