I have a packard bell iMedia Z869 and wish to restore it to factory fresh. It has a hidden partition (I assume it is the recovery partition). How do I access the recovery option?
If you dont have one, write back to me so I can help you with creating one.
Once you get your boot disk in your cd / dvd drive, have the pc boot into this cd
The cd will boot and ask you to pick one out of 3 choices:
Pick the first one saying "with cd support" in the sentence
The cd will now boot in dos and end with it saying that all it's tools are on a certain drive letter
Note the letter it says and access this letter by typing :
d:\ z:
The above is an example ( you must note where the tools are under the drive letter that the software says)
Once you access that drive letter, type this:
z:\fdisk
This program fdisk will open up and show you more choices to choose from
This program is used for controling all the partitions in your hard drive(s)
You will now look at the list of choices and sellect "View partitions"
See if you can now view the hidden partition that may contain the recovery partition and note the drive letter and type of partition (dos extention or whatever )
go back to the first set of choices again and now choose #2. Set active partition.
This will take you to a page that shows all the partitions (hidden and unhidden) and now you will click or select on the hidden partition to make it primary
after that exit the fdisk program and the unit will now reboot
If the unit's software does not work, it's only because the hidden file may have no recovery software or worse: it will demand for the original recovery cds to continue.

Please write me back and let me know how it goes.
Did you try buying a replacement cd drive? and you dont need a floppy drive to use fdisk ( you can develop a cd for booting).
