I have a Peugeot 405 SRDT 1996. The engine is hard to start, ie the cranking time on the starter motor is about 20 seconds before it fires. I think that the glow plugs are not working. Does any one know if there is a fuse for these electrical components?
Hi, Your problem sounds like a common one in peugeot diesel 405's (i have one too) there will be a minute leak somewhere in the fuel system, and the cranking is actually the time taken to pass the air through the system and restore the fuel. in mine it was worse after a long trip. To see if this is the case, try pumping the fuel bulb on the left hand side of the engine. if the engine fires immediately, then all you have to do is find the leak (which can be hard as they can be tiny and only let air in not fuel out) one classic is around the heated fuel filter (round black plastic thing on top of the engine. this is where my leak was. I replaced the seals and filter and bobs your uncle. hope this helps. James
There is a fuse and also a relay. Your fuse box or power distribution box(maybe under the hood) which could also house the relay. Take a test light and check for power at the glow plugs them selves and work backwards towards the power source. If you have power right at the glow plugs, take the plugs out and see if they heat up. You will have to check for power during the waiting period for the plugs to heat up.
