I had this problem too, and fixed it by repeatedly and rapidly cycling the radio between AM and FM. Those buttons on top of the radio collect dust, which gets down into the mechanism and causes poor contact. Pushing the AM/FM button a bunch of times restores the contact. However, in my case this problem was an early warning of other problems to come: phantom turn-ons, etc. Eventually you'll find it necessary to take the unit apart and REALLY clean out all thos switches.
