I have a Scott contessa road bike and am having loads of trouble when changing gears and the chain coming off. When the chain comes off it gets lodged between the bike and chain wheel and is difficult to get free

Your front derailleur should have two small screws for high and low.adjust them so that the derailleur isnt moving to far over.only adjust the screw a half turn at a time.
